About PI
Dr. Wentao Deng is an ophthalmology researcher whose work focuses on the molecular mechanisms of inherited retinal diseases and the development of gene therapies to preserve or restore vision. Her publications span basic and translational research, with particular emphasis on cone photoreceptor biology, adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated gene therapy, and retinal degeneration caused by mutations in cone opsins. More recent studies have elucidated the pathogenic mechanisms of X-linked cone dystrophy and blue cone monochromacy while advancing therapeutic strategies, including AAV gene replacement and CRISPR/Cas approaches for vision rescue. Collectively, Dr. Deng's research has contributed significantly to the understanding of retinal disease mechanisms and the development of innovative treatments for inherited retinal disorders
